Ferdinando
Migani was born in 1941 in Rimini, where he lives and works.
He was still very young when he had his first experiences in carving
wood and learning how to use chisels, gouges and turning lathe, together
with Albino Albini, modeller master and carver.
He watches carefully the harmonious lines of the violins which the
musicians, playing with his father, the organ master Carlo Callisto,
put on the writing desk during pauses. He continues to frequent craftsmen
shops and also to enjoy pencil and charcoal drawing.
He becomes fond of model aeronautics, achieving very important presences
at the World Championships in England and in the United States of
America.
He has studied at the University of Urbino, where he graduated in
Sociology, with a thesis about "The artificial aspect of contemporary
music: the titles".
The violin's glamour attracts him to attend specialization courses
at Violin-Making Centre in Pieve di Cento (Bologna), where he improves
his qualities under the skilled guidance of Benito Tosello, once pupil
of the famous violin creator Natale Carletti.
Later, his brother Pierluigi, sensible and refined
"wood-lover" too, is drawn by the same ancient art and after, with
enthusiasm, they are joined by their nephew Luca:
that's how the Migani Classic Stringed Instruments
Workshop was born.
